I’m Brian Flaherty, and I’m a multi-media design professional with 25+ years of success leading the implementation of visual strategic design and communications for high-profile and large organizations. My skill lies in balancing the demands of creativity, user needs, and business requirements.
Some of my core areas of expertise include: Multi-Media Graphic Design and Content Development, Human-Centered Design/Design Thinking, Service Design, Strategic Communications, Corporate Marketing, In-House/Agency Design, Public Relations, and Digital/Social Media.
Currently, as a Sr. Design Lead and Sr. Human-Centered Design Strategist with Tantus Technologies, I primarily support the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) by creating successful design solutions driven by design thinking principles and methodologies to best understand the people for whom CMS is writing policies and creating programs and services. My design process explicitly focuses on understanding people and the context in which they interact with CMS services. At the heart of my process is participatory design, where we work directly with clinicians, beneficiaries, third-party vendors, federal partners, and CMS employees to collaboratively understand the context of their work and engagement with CMS, as well as the solutions we are creating to support them.
Additionally, in my last role as Group Supervisor of Communications at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, I was critical to the laboratory's initial adoption of design thinking. I managed a 40-member staff that produced a full spectrum of classified and unclassified deliverables.
